On a busy Saturday at Tommy’s Country Ham House in Greenville, Paton Blough, a mental health advocate, had a message for family members, diners, supporters, and others in attendance.

With a mic in hand, Blough announced his intent to run for the 4th District Congressional seat occupied by Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy.  Gowdy was re-elected to a fourth term last November.

This is the second time in the past two years 40-year-old, Blough, has run for the office.

Blough said he’ll run as an Independent and said the two-party system is flawed.

“It’s time for me to be your next congressman. I think the time is right for an independent voice to emerge and fight against what I consider to be the divisive two-party system,” said Blough, who added that voters want a voice, solutions and a government that works for the people.
